First Thursday

Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a Christian pastor and theologian who became a spy during WWII in order to take part in an elaborate plot to kill Hitler. The plot failed, Dietrich was caught, and spent his final days in a concentration camp before being hung on a cold morning just days before the war against Germany was won. The title of this blog is taken from an intentional community that Bonhoeffer formed in the 1920's with the purpose of mentoring young students who demonstrated leadership potential for the church. They gathered every week on Thursday to discuss theology, doctrine, music, art, politics and relationships. Bonhoeffer was incredibly focused on discipleship throughout his short life, and forming the leaders of the next generation in particular. From children in Spain to seminary students in New York, Dietrich passionately pursued every opportunity to speak into the future of the church through those who would come after him. The intention for this blog is to provide a similar forum. Once a week I am inviting college students and young adults to gather here with the hope that we can wrestle together with the topics and ideas that are shaping our culture so that we may be better equipped, and encouraged, to become culture shapers ourselves. Abraham Kuyper once said, "No single piece of our mental world is to be hermetically sealed off from the rest, and there is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry: 'Mine!" This blog is dedicated to this same belief, that Christ desires to see his Kingdom come into every sphere and institution, and that he is looking for co-laborers. For those longing to join the story, we will meet here every Thursday to pray, to think, to reflect, to be equipped, to struggle, to grow, to be transformed, to become transformers. Looking forward to the journey.
